Thriller Update
It has always amazed me how many words find their way to the page when one decides to stop faffing about and actually write. Not think about writing or plan to write or re-read what you’ve written, but actually putting one word after the other in some sort of deliberate sequence. Neither
nor I have scads of bonus time available for working on our joint project, but we are pretty good at squeezing every last word out of our scheduled writing time each week.It helps, if you are busy with life, if you sit down to write with a plan. At the beginning and end of our writing sessions we set some goals with a list of specific scenes (or troublesome emails) that need to be written in order to advance the (increasingly complicated) plot twists.
Then, we write and when time is up, we compare notes and make a plan for where we will pick up again the following week. If one of us has some extra time between official sessions, we have a list of what we might tackle. Not having to figure out where we’ve been or what to write next means we can jump in and get rolling without wasting a lot of time going back and re-reading.
This week, we knew we had a couple of tension-filled scenes in which we needed to cast suspicion on members of our supporting cast of characters. The red herrings are fun to discuss and then plant, but we won’t actually know how effectively we’ve managed to pull off our devious plans until beta readers have had a chance to read through a draft and provide comments.
BTW, if you are interested in being a beta reader, let me know in the comments and we will start a list. We are still several months away from having anything ready to read, but it’s never too early to start collecting names…
The Other Big Project - Dear Sarah
If you have been reading for a while, you will know that Sarah and I started another project together on January 1 - our daily drawing exchange. We are both wordy types, each with an arty parent. We both want to learn to draw and know that the only way to improve our skills is to practice, practice, practice. But who has time to do all that practicing? Neither of us, really. But we figured if we did one drawing a day we might benefit from the Duolingo Effect. Here’s the list of recent daily drawing exchanges (along with our emails back and forth) from the last week or so. I guess at some point I should start adding the links to previous round-up posts, but for the moment, these will have to do.

Do you have a daily writing/photography/haiku/journaling/drawing/quilting/pot-making/creative project? Are you sharing your results anywhere? I would LOVE to see what you are up to!
Love that you put the cute (real) kewpie instead my drawing of the evil kewpie!
