Hi Sarah -
February 27, 2026
No idea where this came from. I wanted to sketch ‘a tired woman looking up.’ No idea why. Anyway, she was bulgier than anticipated. And, apparently, not alone.
Today’s writing session was fun - it’s easier in some ways, now that we have a pretty good handle on who is who. And then… a scruffy niece walks into the room and you suddenly have no idea what her agenda may be. Heh. Heh. LOVE some of the additional family history pieces you crafted for Rose - she makes a lot more sense now. As does stroppy teenage son, Anton.
Tomorrow, my friend-
Nikki
Hi Nikki,

I went back to one of my books to try and get a handle on perspective, starting with one-point perspective. I used a ruler to get the initial lines down, and even then, there's some wonkiness. I'll have to practice a lot to get this right, but I understand the basics now (sort of). Someone I follow on Instagram (he's an architect, I think) uses a push pin tied to some string at the top or side of the page to get all the angles exactly right, but that would mean having a cork board etc etc. Too much faffing about. And I'm not really aiming for that kind of accuracy--I just want to be able to convey the sense of distance. I did have fun drawing increasingly tiny place settings for the table.
I'm going to read a bit of The Work of Art now, since it's not a tome you can read in bed (where I usually do most of my reading). I'm not sure where I heard about it, but it looks fascinating.
Picking up watercolour paints and mixed media paper tomorrow--I want to be able to add some colour sometimes--and l decided to treat myself.
Excited about our progress on Sex, Lies and Graffiti. And yes Macoma is a clam. Macoma Nasuta--bent-nosed clam. Photo attached. Very common on the west coast. Very appropriate for the town, where people are becoming bent out of shape.
