Wow - how fast did that week go??? So fast that I managed to miss the deadline!
Thriller Update
We have officially passed the halfway mark and yes, things are heating up! This week, it’s all about red herrings, making sure we have enough believably threaded through the narrative. We’re re-reading so we make sure we don’t drop any threads as we enter the very tangly web of the back half of the first draft. Exciting!
What I’m Reading
Tales of Nevèrÿon by Samuel Delaney - for school.
A Year of Last Things by Michael Ondaatje - poems, for pleasure
What We Watched that Made Us Cry
A Man Called Otto
I have been advised by a reputable source that if we enjoyed the Tom Hanks version, we will really love the original Swedish film, En man som heter Ove/A Man Called Ove. I’m on the hunt now for the earlier version and will let you know if we concur.
Daily Drawing Challenge
and I have been SO diligent with our daily drawing exchange, though it could just as well have been called our daily seeing exchange. It turns out that a huge chunk of the learning to draw process is actually all about learning to see. Or, learning to draw what we see and not what we think we see. If you already draw, you will know exactly what I mean. If you don’t, give it a try. Looking is not the same as seeing is not the same as seeing to translate via hand/pencil/pen/crayon that visual input into something on the page that doesn’t make you want to puke. Scroll down just a little farther and you’ll see the links for the past ten days (I have been so busy I haven’t had a chance to catch up on this not-quite-weekly newsletter). Day 37

Words on Wednesday
Behind locked Zoom doors in the world of Writers on Fire, I run a lively writing group. We meet to critique work, share prompts and resources, and occasionally get together in person for retreats. Over the years, I’ve accumulated a lot of resources for writers, so I thought I’d share some of the prompts on Wednesdays. If you missed the Words on Wednesdays post this week, here’s the link. Enjoy indulging in an occasional writing prompt? Watch your inbox for tomorrow’s episode…
And that, is that until next week-ish.
