Even more fun is the "Watcha Mean, What's a Zine?" book by Mark Todd and Esther Pearl Watson. Though, there's something useful in pretty much every book I'm plucking off the shelf these days.
I'm sorry I can't agree with you about the page full of felines—they're wonderful! My artist dad used to comment on when drawings were "alive," as opposed to being so polished and perfect they had no life left to them whatsoever. These cats are alive!
With huge respect to Ivan Brunetti, I've found that book a little too dense. Lynda Barry's interpretations of Brunetti's work in her books Syllabus and Making Comics are far more accessible. Meaning, I actually made comics, which is kind of the point, no? :)
Agree, the cats are certainly not polished or perfect - not that I'm aiming for perfection. So, I'll happily take alive!
Agree that Brunetti is a tad dense. Chock full of goodness, but dense. I've requested the two Lynda Barry books you mentioned from the library. With any luck I won't be waiting too long for them to arrive! And, yes - the point is absolutely to make comics :)
I love the felines! And the castle! I think you are becoming better than you dream. What great work. Your father would be so proud.
Aw, thanks Sara - day by day by day... things keep appearing on the page. And that's not a bad thing :)
Great work! Will track down a copy of that book. Looks like fun.

“my early page of truly dreadful cats”
This is a Substack unto itself. Or maybe your band name.
And PS they are fairly wonderful, sleek and pointed and surprised.
My band name! Yes!
Nikki!
L🐱VE the felines...
Not feeble at all!
Thanks! So interesting... more people are liking those crazy cats than not... Though, maybe the haters are just not speaking up.

Hahahahaha.
I think the one thing haters definitely do is speak up…
Which means (as they haven’t spoken up) your cats get the global stamp of approval. You now have to accept that they are great! Meow and out x
LOL - thanks for that! >^^< (those are cat ears and whiskers...I don't have good enough control over my punctuation marks to do anything fancier...)
