Who's watching? Three birds.
Dear Sarah/Dear Nikki - Day 440 of our daily drawing exchange
Hi Sarah -
I’ve been reading Collage by Women: 50 Essential Contemporary Artists by Rebeka Elizegi, and was struck by how much deconstruction and reconstruction of the human figure is going on in the examples.

I also wanted to start using some of the dozens of maps and travel brochures I’ve been hoarding forever without knowing why. In the end, I restrained myself and did not also layer on paints, ribbons, glitter and who knows what else (I keep finding things in my boxes of ‘keep this, just in case’ that I think could find new lives in collage…) and just went with the basics. I did, however, try to pay some attention to the colour palette and gave some thought to design principles, so the process felt a little less chaotic and random than is oft the case in my messy world.
Hope you are doing better today - the aftermath of certain treatments/vaccines can approach the awfulness of whatever ailment one is trying to cure/prevent.
Chicken soup? Cold compresses? Tea?
Sending healing vibes your way…
Nikki
Hi Nikki,
I felt much better today—even got out for a walk. This is a haiku I wrote about my walk.
The sun disappeared/A cold hard rain stung my face/Oh look, a rainbow
When I came home I culled a few old paintings and cut them up to make a collage. No bodies were deconstructed. I’m not sure that I’m cut out for collage (hahahahaha!) due to limited space and patience and a dislike of stickiness. But I can see how it could be mighty seductive, rearranging reality.
XO S
PS Step away from the glitter.
