Unfinished business in Spain - and a fruit salad
Dear Sarah - 048 Our Daily Drawing Exchange Continues
Hi Nikki,
February 17, 2025
I stayed in bed and worked this morning, with breaks for nose-blowing and making tea. Oh yes, and I made a quick trip to the corner grocery for Neapolitan ice cream, which feels good on my sore throat. A nostalgic treat from my childhood.
I made a fruit salad for lunch (blueberries, pineapple, orange and apple with yogurt and homemade granola) and then drew a pear, a strawberry and a bunch of grapes (none of which I had on hand or they would have been in my lunch).
In one of my drawing books, there are examples of how to use basic shapes (in this case circles and triangles) as the starting point for a drawing. An hour passed quite happily and now it's time to read and fall asleep. Strawberry seeds are tiny and tough to draw.
Hope your day has been similarly productive/relaxed (without the coughing and nose-blowing).
XO S

Hello Sarah!
I’ve just emerged from a marathon work session with Dani. We are collaborating on a big project for school - a braided essay with a LOT of strands!! At the moment, those strands are going every which way, but tonight’s session left us both feeling optimistic that we can at least partially tame the mess before the end of the semester.
As a result, my return to the iPad and work on a drawing of the courtyard in the Paradore in Santiago de Compostela is unfinished… But, I don’t have the strength to start anything else and so you have this work in progress.
It was very cool to really look at how all those curves, angles, lines, embellishments, balustrades, roof tiles, window sills, etc. etc. fit together and create a building! It was meditative to noodle my way from this corner to that column to the next archway… so much so that I want to return to this when I have a few minutes and keep going.
Stay tuned, I guess.
I hope you feel much better soon - glad to hear you were able to get some rest. Your fruit salad sounds delicious and full of goodness :) I can see, too, the building blocks from the drawing exercises being put to good use in your fruit-inspired drawing!
BTW - as we agreed to do, I managed to get quite a bit of the thriller manuscript-so-far read and found it strange how real those characters are becoming in my mind. I feel as though I could go to the book shop and chat with the women, then step outside and run into Gerry the realtor. Looking forward to reading up to where we are and then plowing ahead on Thursday during our next working session.
Sleep well!
Nikki
