Underpainting and fiddly washes
Dear Sarah--Day 335 of our daily drawing exchange
Hi Nikki,
Wonderful to see you today, and get back to Littleneck. Details, details, details. Who knew a crow and a bottle of pills could be so time-consuming?
I see that we are 30 days away from our drawniversary! How shall we celebrate??
I did the underpainting of the Croatian scene—tomorrow I will go back in with pen and add details and shadows.
XO S
Hi Sarah -
oh, it was great to see you back on Littleneck… and yes, the devil, as they say, is in the details. But, good fun to go back through and start tidying up all these bits and pieces. No doubt we will miss something no matter how careful we are, but that’s what beta readers and editors and rewrites are for…
I like where your Croatian scene is headed…
I am likewise sharing something unfinished. I keep meaning to start with washes, but always forget. So…
I started with a layer that only has the background washes - and that took far longer (and was less successful) than hoped. Much fiddling followed, but more is needed. Inspired by your multi-step process, I shall continue with this tomorrow, perhaps with the intervention of a tutorial or two.
Or, maybe I should do a series comprised ONLY of the washes. If I like any of them, I could save them for later overpainting.
Until tomorrow-
Nikki
