Tulips Part 10
Dear Nikki/Dear Sarah00Day 425 of our daily drawing account
Dear Nikki,
I really hope you are feeling better. I see you liked a comment on your Substack so maybe things are improving. I have continued my online chats with Dr Robot, and am feeling cautiously optimistic about my autoimmune condition(s). Having a paid subscription to ChatGTP makes a HUGE difference in the amount and quality of information that you get. As I understand it, many doctors now use AI as a diagnostic tool. I can see why. You’d have to spend days searching online to get anywhere near the amount of scientific info I got in 2.5 hours.
I think today is the last day for tulips. Unlike some tulips I have had, these ones did not droop languidly and drop graceful petals. I cut them back yesterday, but they are not attractive. I’ll give them one more day…then into the compost they go.
I did this drawing a few days ago—I was interested in eliminating curves (missed a couple) and adding lots of straight edges and unrealistic details. I think it may be my favourite of all! It’s done with watercolour brush markers, but imagine if I had the Posca Acrylic Marker Set of 24!! Maybe I’ll get another Opus gift certificate for my birthday!!
XO S
Hi Sarah -
yes, I am feeling much more myself - thank goodness!
And, oh - Posca pens… I have a cheaper version, and they are pretty good, but Poscas are the creme de la creme of pens… (I think I’m missing some accents).
Before the plague took me out, I had prepped a background page with no idea what I was going to use it for. Tonight, when I sat down with my stack of magazines, I also wanted to do something more geometric - like, with a ruler. I was flipping randomly through said magazines and came across this great aerial photo of people in survival suits bobbing around in water filled with ice chunks, and it struck me that they could be in outer space. The old magazines I picked up at the thrift store were from COVID days, and the word ‘Air’ appeared more often than you might think. I guess we were pretty worried back in the day about what nastiness we might inhale (hence all the masks I still keep finding tucked in rarely used jacket pockets). As I was cutting, moving things around, drawing lines, a chant started up in my head - Float. Flight. Flee. All three words seemed somehow connected to air. I’m also trying to be more intentional with colour.
I may like this better tomorrow.
Next year I should take part in Februllage. Somehow managed to miss it completely this year. Daily collage prompts provided by Edinburgh Collage Collective and the Scandinavian Collage Museum. Both are places I’ve now added to my ‘see before I croak’ list.
See you soon -
Nikki
