Tulips 7
Dear Nikki/Dear Sarah--Day 422 of our daily drawing exchange
Hi Nikki,
Got back to the tulips today, this time with colour pencils. It’s a bit ghostly, but in a good way, I think.
Read a lovely illustrated middle-grade novel today (for a mentorship I’m doing). It’s called Wild Robot and I highly recommend it for readers of all ages. Very moving, but also funny and wise.
It was VERY windy here today—stoplights out, power out in some places (not here, though. Someone told me that our building is on the same power grid as the navy base, and that’s why we don’t lose power—no idea if that’s true). I decided to go for a walk along the Gorge Waterway, thinking it might be less windy away from the ocean. It wasn’t. But my back/hip/leg situation was slightly better.
XO S
Hi Sarah -
glad to hear you are at least partially free of your heating pad/warm blanket/couch confinement. We have had some wild wind here, too, though this evening things are quieter.
More collage/mixed media from me today. I started with a photo of Dad, converted it to B&W, and then printed it on a lovely piece of heavily textured handmade paper (thank you, Chris!!). Then I dug around in a bin of brochures, maps, and ephemera carefully saved from various trips with Dad and began to tear, cut, and then paste with wild abandon. After that, it was acrylic paint followed by a thin watercolour wash and… cohesive chaos? Sort of? I don’t quite have the knack of this yet. I took several books about collage techniques out of the library today and hope to have a few minutes to browse through them over the weekend.
Monday, Dani arrives, but I have no idea how much time we will have for arsty projects while she’s here. Then it’s off to the coast, where you and I can have an in-person visit. Very much looking forward to that!
Talk soon -
Nikki
