Have you ever heard of a bride showing up at a surprise wedding? As in, her own wedding? Seems this is a tad unusual… But, it also seems to be happening to me! Here I was thinking that I was going to slip away for a few days (not even a week) to visit my brother and his family in the Bahamas, searching for slugs and bumblebees to draw, avoiding overstimulation (see yesterday’s post for details - my family finds yesterday’s post hilarious).
OMG the universe has a wild sense of humour. I mean, who could make this stuff up?
We were picked up from the Margaritaville terminal by my brother (we took the boat over to Grand Brahama from Florida) - nothing overly weird there - he’s a good driver, has a car, of course he would pick us up. He took us to a local botanical garden where we were to meet my sister-in-law for coffee. Except, every time we came around a bend a new relative popped out of the bushes. Literally!
My daughter from the west coast (a ‘birthday present gift, her trip to visit Grand Bahama’), a nephew (who hid in a tree), a niece (in a bush), my other brother and sister-in-law (all the way from Japan!!) - and, yes, another niece, and my sister-in-law joined us (my significant other and my step-daughter)… In the outdoor café, they presented me with an invitation to my own wedding - completely catching me off guard and very nearly causing a heart attack (mine - I’m still in a state of shock).
Talk about an avalanche of emotions! (Grasping at metaphors… it’s been quite a day!),
The wedding is TOMORROW!! (excuse all the exclamation marks and all caps - but, HOLY CRAP!!)
Long story short, there may well have been slugs, butterflies, worms, who knows what else (I do vaguely recall some turtles at the botanical gardens - that was before my brain went into some sort of parallel universe weird meltdown and stopped functioning temporarily) - but needless to say, I didn’t notice them. Nor did I draw any creatures. Or anything else.
And, right now, I need to cut this short and write some vows.
Quite possibly will be AWOL tomorrow as well…
Um… updates to come at some point… give me a minute to regain my equilibrium.
Great surprise!
I think your post is full of joyful laughter.
