Snowstorm
Dear Sarah - Day 306 of our daily drawing exchange
Hi Sarah -
Heavy snowfall warning.
Today brings the first big snowstorm of the winter to Ottawa. As if I needed another reminder of how good it feels to be in a warm (not too hot), sunny place where one can climb all day, swim to cool off, and then enjoy some great gelato on a terrace while watching the sunset. Yes, this evening’s drive back to our friend’s place after a lovely visit with A. in her downtown apartment was a rude awakening.
I’m pretty sure I posted the original wine bottle here not that long ago, but here’s where it will wind up in the Rome project - as one in a series of pages that explores memory-making, particularly when associated with food and drink.
Suddenly bone-weary as my body seems to think I should be sound asleep right now. Jetlag. It seems to get harder and harder to bounce back after long flights. Not sure if we’ve made it easier on ourselves by stopping on the other side of the country or if this layover will just prolong the agony of resetting our body clocks.
Hope that by tomorrow we may be getting turned around…
Nikki
Hi Nikki,
I remember coming back from Hawaii once at night to a windy, cold, slanting, west coast rain. It was a nasty shock. A heavy snowfall is a whole other level of adjustment.
I do remember the wine bottle story, and I love how you have put the image and story together (although I did wonder if you are wearing a nightgown in the drawing). I also like that you have created a drawn Nikki avatar—instantly recognizable by the hair and the glasses. I find her very endearing, and I think she makes your projects come alive.
I was in a cafe in James Bay today, and while I waited for my friend to arrive I drew the small table that held milk, cream, water, napkins, etc. Table is, of course, wonky, but I really do enjoy drawing what’s in front of me, even if the details escape me.
XO S
