Slam! And a blast from the past.
Dear Sarah/Dear Nikki - Day 407 of our daily drawing exchange
Hi Sarah -
This evening, I’ll be hosting a poetry slam at ArtsPlace in Canmore. I’m always amazed at the bravery and exuberance of the poets who get up to perform. Standing alone in front of a microphone, the room dark enough that you can’t really see your audience properly, is daunting. I applaud all those who are willing to share.
I’ll likely be in late, though, and utterly exhausted, so I’ve started the post earlier than usual today.
Looking forward to our writing session tomorrow -
Nikki
Hi Nikki,
Is This Thing On? is the name of a new movie about standup. It’s supposed to be really good.
I just got back from a trip to Mill Bay to have lunch with my friend, Tanya. Did not miss the ferry this time and had a lovely lunch and catch-up with T. The ferry ride from Brentwood to Mill Bay (and back) is so much less stressful than driving over the Malahat. And it’s also free from Monday to Thursday for foot passengers who are seniors.
I did one drawing on the ferry to Mill Bay—a tiny (and necessarily fast) sketch of a boat at anchor that looks very much like the one I used to live on when I was a hippie chick—the one that inspired my first book, Puppies on Board. That’s me in the glasses and bell-bottoms. Our German shepherd-Husky cross really did have 11 puppies on our 32-foot converted gill-netter.
See you in the morning.
XO S
