The night before we left on our climbing trip, I managed to fire off a rough first draft of the current short film script I’m working on for Andy. [I wrote a bit about that here.]
I knew it was rough, but I wasn’t expecting quite the cool reception I received.
Understand that I have no problem at all doing endless rewrites - that’s pretty normal on any writing project. But when some notes won’t provide enough feedback…
Being summoned to a meeting is kind of ominous.
Once I got to Andy’s place, Kat (his wife), Andy and I started talking about the script. Eventually, Andy wound his way around to pointing out what was missing.
After Kat printed out the whole script we realized the problem…
Incorporating the notes I took during the not-so-scary meeting and the work I’ll do over the weekend to beef up a couple of sections is more in line with what I was expecting in the dealing-with-the-feedback department. I’m happy to add a little more of such-and-such and chop out something else and move some stuff around…
I’m not getting fired and the project feels like it’s back on track. Phew!!
Note: If you keep coming back, you’ll get to hear what happens when we go on location (camping in the Ghost Wilderness Area) to do some filming. As happens on any shoot, there’s likely to be a lot of sitting around, waiting - and then a flurry of activity - which seems like a good combination when it comes to getting some more cartoons done.
