Dear Sarah - Day 209 of our daily drawing exchange
July 28, 2025
Hi Nikki,
After a full day of work (with a bit of yoga and a walk to the library) I went down a rabbit hole of trying to find a good YouTube tutorial on perspective. I found a decent one, and then was distracted by an urban sketcher called Tobysketchloose who had a great tutorial on sketching people. By the time I emerged from the rabbit hole it was too late to do either perspective or people, so I did some fast flowers.
Spilled the ink (not on the painting) and didn't get the red right on the geranium and flubbed the drawing of the sweet pea against a grey fence. Going too fast, not paying enough attention.
Tomorrow is another day. Hope you are home by now. Sorry to be late with drawing.
XO S
Hi Sarah!
Finally home after another whirlwind trip to the city. For now, at least. I really like Tobysketchloose (or so I seem to remember, it’s been a while since I watched one of his videos).
I’m at a bit of a loss as to what to draw tonight… I am backing away from the keyboard to find something with which to draw…
Amidst the clutter of my desk - a battery. A Post-It note. A ballpoint pen.
A small project in which many things immediately went wrong. The proportions, for one. If I actually look closely, the battery should be longer. The bulgy bit at the positive end is too bulgy in the drawing. The flatter bulgy bit on the negative end disappeared in my effort at shading. The pattern on the side is wrong. The lettering not right. The Chinese characters missing. The expiry date (an impressive March 2034) missing.
What is most fascinating is when I zoomed in to photograph the masterpiece (!) I discovered the plain, smooth Post-It note has a wonderful texture. I could probably use that as a cool background if I imported it into Procreate…
And that, as they say, is all she wrote.
Thank goodness for tomorrows…
Nikki
