Poor Ringo
Dear Nikki/Dear Sarah--Day 476 of our daily art adventures
Hi Nikki,
Great to see you today as we amble towards the finish line with All She Wrote. I did the one-hour webinar with badportraits (who is a Calgary artist named Mandy Stobo). We did two blind contour drawings from images she provided, and then used watercolour paint to add colour. My first one, a still life, was all squinched up on one side of the page—adding colour produced something vaguely Miro-esque. The second image was of the Beatles—with Ringo on the far right. This time I used more of the page, but poor Ringo ended up detached from the other three and has no nose, which is ironic because Ringo actually has quite an impressive shnozz. Such is the nature of blind contour drawing.

Hi Sarah-
I LOVE the Beatles portrait! The technique of adding watercolour over the blind drawing worked well for both - these are cool!
Yes, agree it was good to be nearing the finish line on the manuscript…
Not quite sure where I was headed with this one, but don’t hate it as much as I thought I would when I was feeling a bit lost in the shredded paper bits and pieces that didn’t want to organize themselves in a reasonable way.
Tomorrow, heading to the city for an inspection. Lots of calls to make, email follow-ups before and after and probably a grocery store stop on the way back out to the mountains.
I might try to find something in Calgary tomorrow that I can integrate into tomorrow’s effort.
Cheers,
Nikki
