Parallel lives
Dear Sarah - Day 286 of our daily drawing exchange
Hi Sarah -
I’m so sorry your back has gone out! How well I know the true inconvenience of this particular form of bodily non-cooperation. Mine is finally starting to get back to normal, which meant a FULL day of exploring a cave, recovering from that (it was very humid in there) with a swim and a quick bite to eat and then on to do some late afternoon climbing.
Because we have plans for a multi-pitch climb tomorrow, after we came back to the village, we had to coordinate with another friend to procure a second 80 meter rope as our objective requires a very long rappel into thin air in order to get back down to solid ground. Hence, another walk through town, a quick bite to eat, and then the hike back to our place with said rope.
Packing and organizing for tomorrow’s adventure is a bit different to a normal day of cragging, so we’ve been sorting gear and making plans… and now, need to get to bed.
So… pulling from the archives:
It’s always amusing to see what pops up when I go into my google photos backup and search for drawings. This one does seem somewhat appropriate.
Ciao for niao -
Nikki
Ciao, bella.
If anyone lives parallel lives, it would be you, my friend. I get dizzy just thinking about all the lives you live. I think to some extent, most people do have multiple versions of themselves, if not exactly parallel lives. For instance, I was a version of myself on Friday that rarely makes an appearance: an extrovert in a social gathering. In this case, it was at the celebration of life, where I saw many people I hadn’t seen in years. Some I was happy to see—my old psychiatrist, for instance, with whom I did not need to pretend to be an extrovert! Some…not so much.
I sat at a big round banquet table by myself for a while (by choice) and drew my ring and my sunglasses. And thought about the fragility of life, as one does at such events. As always in most social situations, I wished I drank, but nobody wants to see a 75-year-old woman dance on tables, do they? Or fall off.
The food was excellent, though, which is always a bonus! I wanted to draw people with tiny plates piled high with food, sitting at the big tables, eating with knives and forks, as if they were having dinner (it was 3 pm). But that would have been rude. The juxtaposition of the wee plates and the regular-size cutlery was really funny, though.
My back is much better today. I rested yesterday and was able to go for a walk to Macauley Point today. It was sunny but very windy, and I saw a fantastic rainbow on my way home. Have been back to Littleneck. Liking it a lot. Who knew? I kinda forgot we can actually write!
XO S
