Oh boy, more magnolias
Dear Sarah/Nikki - Day 435 of our daily drawing exchange
Hi Sarah -
after a bit of a marathon drive (roads were closed, avalanche control) and a detour via Nelson (not exactly on the way from coast to home), finally made it home very tired last night.
Thank you for holding the fort and posting for both of us while I was on the road.
This effort falls into the category of ‘before’ - as in, before I figure out what the heck to do with bits and pieces that might sort of fuse into some kind of mixed-media/collage something. It’s terrible, but I don’t have time to do anything else, so… there you go. I was trying to be more conscious with colour - and echoing shapes, but really, dog’s breakfast would be a good title for this one.
Over to you, my friend…
Nikki
Hi Nikki,
I really like your m-m/collage—colours are fabulous. Shapes are intriguing. (Is that a slug on the right?) Marks seem intentional. Not terrible at all. I think your fatigue is talking when you call it a dog’s breakfast.
My big excitement today was a haircut! I changed hairdressers recently, and I love that I can walk to Vamp Salon in five minutes. It’s a small, funky space with an eclectic decor (there’s an ever-changing art wall in the back room to look at as you get your hair washed). I have had (and overheard) some lively conversations there—from civic politics, to gut biomes, to who makes the best marzipan in Victoria. And to top it all off, Michelle gave me a great haircut.
I also had enough energy to do a weight routine and spend a bit more time arting. I did one magnolia with pen and ink plus watercolour—using Speedball india ink, which is waterproof. I messed up the background, so I just cut most of it away! Then I tried again with a Sakura pen and watercolour. My favourite of all this year’s magnolias is definitely the charcoal rendition.
XO S
