My aura, an invitation
Dear Nikki/Dear Sarah--Day 508 of our daily art adventure
Dear Nikki,
I have a migraine, which started after my usual light show in one eye (see below). Kids just left, so I will post this and close my eyes for a while.
XO S
Hi Sarah -
oof. That’s dedication - drawing while under the influence of a migraine aura. And, a weirdly familiar image. I also have migraines that start with similar disconcerting light shows. Apparently, Hildegard von Bingen suffered from migraines back in the Middle Ages, and some of her aura-inspired artwork seems to depict what she considered to be visions.
This article includes a number of interpretations of the phenomenon by various artists.
Today was, as expected, full and overstimulating. And wonderful. I think our presentation went down well (and stayed just under our time limit). After the Messy Processes conference wrapped up, we found a Vietnamese restaurant not far from where we are staying this evening and then retreated to a lovely garden oasis at the BNB to catch up on emails, grant applications, and (me) the daily art adventure. I had picked up some excellent sample publications at SFU and found therein some fabulous images and appropriate text for today’s quickie collage.
Tomorrow early, I head east and back over the mountains. Should be home in time for dinner.
Nikki
