Mini-daffs and the fine line between
Dear Nikki/Dear Sarah--Day 398 of our daily drawing exchange
Hi Nikki,
I spent most of the day doing a final read-through of a very good cancer memoir, with a break for yoga and lunch. At the end of the day I wanted to draw something colourful, so I did two versions of a pot of mini-daffodils that were about 2 inches high when I bought them 10 days ago. They are now about 18 inches tall, and fading fast. I did one ink and watercolour painting, and one using my brand new Derwent Inktense watercolour pencils, which are, as advertised, in(k)tense. Even a small amount of water makes the colours explode!
Then I did a sketchbook assignment, which was to walk around my apartment and make colour “swatches” of some of my favourite things. A yellow bowl, a blue glass jug and a red-and-orange wall hanging.
Oh, and here too is a Northern Flicker— the bird my feather is from. Identified by a friend and by one of our readers.

Hi Sarah -
oh, that’s a great photo of the Northern Flicker!! Wow.
Though it has been warm-ish here, we are still a long way away from the sunny faces of daffodils… We put studded tires on the e-bike and tomorrow Fabio and friends are headed off on the bikes to ride into an ice climb…
More collage and mixed media today - fascinated by that fine line between here and gone. In the end, thoroughly enjoyed The Kingdom of This World…
Next up, several short stories by Jorge Luis Borges. We have been encouraged to read each one twice as the second reading is likely to be shaped by advance knowledge of the ending.
I’ve always admired those who can write a good short story. So few words to work with and so much to be said.
Cheers,
Nikki

What a great quote, Carol! Thank you.
“A house with daffodils in it is a house lit up, whether or no the sun be shining outside. Daffodils in a green bowl - and let it snow if it will.” A. A. Milne (1882-1956) One of my favourite flowers.
Nikki, we just watched Stephen King's "The Life of Chuck" on Netflix. It starts with Act 3-the end of his life, then 2 and 1. We watched it again the next night, in light of what we'd learned about the character the night before. Interesting exercise.
