Looking at leaves and obsessed with climbing pasta
Dear Sarah--Day 259 of our daily drawing exchange
Hi Nikki,
Long day inside, doing a yoga class, working, talking to clients, chatting with Monique Polak, who says hi! Finally went out and discovered it was HOT and I was dressed inappropriately. It’s suddenly swimming weather again. Weird. Leaves are falling fast. Seemed like the right time to play around with leaves, and to do something without following a tutorial or copying someone else’s work. So here we have leaves two ways. Fooling around with colour washes and ink and hoping things don’t go muddy. Watercolour can turn on you in an instant! I regret outlining the leaves in the top image, and there are a couple of wonky leaves in the other, but overall, a good art day. I took the annoying perspective book back to the library and gave it a hard shove into the return slot!

Hi Sarah -
it was hot here today, too… and, with all the packing and prepping to try to tidy up what I can work-wise, not much time for drawing.
The leaves are turning and blowing and falling… the night air is crisp, but the days are warm and I’m finding it hard to believe that by the time I get back there will likely be snow and ice everywhere. Trying my best to get outside each day to fully appreciate these last days of late summer/early fall. September is a good month to be here in the mountains and I’ll be a bit sad to miss the last gasps of good weather before everything freezes over…
Today on my late afternoon bike ride I was treated to this showdown between two bull elk in the river.
The footage is a bit wobbly because I was a) zoomed in and b) poised to take off on my bike if either of the bulls looked like they were considering heading in my direction. Turn the sound up so you can hear the eery bugling.
Talk soon -
Nikki
