Kelpy squiggles, raised beds, and an unfinished bridge
Dear Sarah - Day 158 of our daily drawing exchange
June 7. 2025
Dear Nikki,
I started the day with more squiggles--this time to practice drawing faint and heavy lines. Kind of looks like kelp.
Then it was on to a pottery show, followed by a baseball game (my grandson hit a grand slam!) and then drawing in K's backyard. She drew her water bottle, I drew some flower beds and a pot of marigolds. She fell in love with my Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pen, but I managed to wrestle it away from her!

It was a hot day, but there was shade at the baseball game and in the backyard, so I'm not too fried. But I am hungry! I could have had poutine at the ball game--or a hot dog or burger--but hot food on a hot day was unappealing.
Tomorrow is supposed to be even hotter, but my neighbourhood is cooled by sea breezes.
XO S
Hello Sarah!
Things are also warming up here and I’m hoping to take full advantage tomorrow and sneak out to do a couple of hours of climbing in the afternoon.
I made the mistake this evening of pulling out the iPad and speculating whether there was a good bridge-drawing tutorial on YouTube… There are several, including an excellent one that includes using tools I have yet to fully wrap my head around (intended to assist with perspective, etc.
I needed more time, though, so I basically bailed before the bridge was complete - cheated and added a few random lines that didn’t belong, and didn’t stop and start the video in order to follow all the various steps/settings/layer adjustments required…
The result is the start of a bridge…
Some good learning was taking place, though… This will be a subject to which I will return. There is so much to learn on the iPad and I feel like a total klutz whenever I try to do anything, but soooooo helpful when it comes to architectural stuff to have straight lines and guides for the vanishing points, etc.
Worth playing around with for sure.
K has great taste in pens!
See you tomorrow -
Nikki
