Iron #2 and an homage to LAMY pens
Dear Sarah--Day 344 of our daily drawing exchange
Here’s Iron #2. Pencil sketch first, followed by a heavy pen and then a light pen. Who knew cross-hatching could work so well to convey the black parts of the iron? I like this one a lot!
Going out in 30 minutes, so must eat now.
XO S
Hi Sarah!
I hope you have a delightful evening! Looking forward to hearing about the performance… This is a fun iron!! Agree the cross-hatching work well to convey the blackness…
I really enjoyed the exercise from the other day (drawing something from different angles) and had a water brush and my two LAMY pens handy… With my recent forays back into the world of analog tools, I also reminded myself how much I like pen and ink. I have three fountain pens going at the moment - a very fine-tipped retractable fountain pen from Japan with ink that does NOT run with water and then my two LAMYs (one was my dad’s, the other a birthday gift from him).
When Dani and I were in Rome, we visited a great little stationery/art supply shop not far from our hotel and I was delighted to find a great selection of LAMY cartridges in a wide range of colours. Bonus? They were cheap. I should have bought ten times as many. I treated myself to green, turquoise, and purple - but can only effectively use one colour at a time per pen as it takes too long for the ink to dribble through the pen to change the colours too often. I may need another LAMY so I can use my turquoise. For now, though, the inks run in a fabulously unpredictable way when I add a tiny bit of water from my water brush…
We are heading toward the coast tomorrow, driving over the mountains (wish us luck - there’s been lots of snow recently). I’m only taking a basic set of art supplies and the iPad, but the LAMY pens and a couple of water brushes are packed and ready to go.
Until tomorrow (which, according to my calculations, should find us in Kamloops) - Nikki
(p.s. If anyone wants a LAMY - here’s a link… The same link will work if anyone feels compelled to treat me to a decadent third pen for my collection…Just saying. If a LOT of you buy pens, I could save up the few pennies per pen that Amazon may someday send my way and then I’ll buy my own third pen so I can use my turquoise ink).
