Here comes the sun(flower)
Dear Nikki/Dear Sarah--Day 453 of our daily drawing adventure
Hi Nikki,
After drying overnight under a heavy book and a hand weight, yesterday’s collage looks so much better—it was so saggy when the paper was wet. Still messy but quite joyful. Full workday today, followed by a walk in the sunshine, which inspired the sunflower I painted—totally out of season, but who cares? Earlier in the day I sketched the solitary tulip on my deck—I didn’t plant any bulbs in the fall, but this one survived and popped up, only to be blown horizontal by the gale force winds last night. I’ll probably paint it for tomorrow’s post.
Hi Sarah -
Oh, I love sunflowers!! They always transport me to other places - Fort McMurray where we grew Russian Giants in defiance of the short season, southern France and a stop at the edge of a field full of their glorious heads, nodding (us and the flowers), visits with Dad to the sunflower farm on the island… how many photos of sunflowers does one need? Took them anyway…
If only I’d known where you were going with yours today, I could also have gone to sunflowers quite happily for my inspiration. Instead… sort of meandered to the dark side.
Not exactly sure why, except it seemed a good use of some photos of stained glass I had printed onto tracing paper during yesterday’s printing experiments. And then I found this headline and the deathbed photo and, well, the rest just emerged from there…
Until tomorrow -
Nikki
