Hanging on and letting it flow
Dear Sarah - Day 334 of our daily drawing exchange
Hi Sarah -
Today’s contribution started as an exercise in drawing a familiar subject from an unusual angle. I started with this odd figure (me-ish) sort of from above and behind but just floating in the middle of the page. I couldn’t tell if the person was supposed to be hanging from a rope, looking over the edge of a cliff, kneeling, or? I thought if I suggested some kind of context, things would right themselves.
That did not happen. It was like those illusions where you can’t tell if you are looking at a woman’s profile or a vase. I still have no idea what’s going on, so I’ll leave this as a sort of Rorschach drawing where viewers can decide for themselves what it all means.
I think I might go and cut up some magazines.
Nikki
Hi Nikki,
At first glance, I thought it was a person on a ski hill gondola! But then—no snow! My contribution today is an experiment with ink. I only have two colours—black and red— so I painted a grey wash with the black and added red and black details with my dip pen. If I had green instead of red, it would look a bit like kelp. Maybe. Fun to play, though.
Big excitement today was that my toilet stopped working. This is a problem when you only have one bathroom. I tried a couple of rudimentary fixes, but the water would not stay in the tank. Beyond my pay grade. I was heading out to meet a client, so I called my “landlord” (an organization which does not actually answer their phones). Grrr. Left a message and it did get fixed while I was out. Otherwise I would have had to find a place to stay overnight. I’m not a camel!
I remember cutting up magazines and making collages when I was a teenager. I recall doing one that was all lips!
See you tomorrow.
XO S
