Glorious Viking Ship, Rolling Hills and Writers at Work in Art
Dear Sarah - Day 199 of our daily drawing exchange
July 11, 2025
Hi Nikki,
Alone in the house, waiting for you to pick me up. Thought I'd get the painting and drawing done now, in case the day gets away from us!
The rolling hills are from the class--again more about applying a technique than creating a masterpiece. I have a tiny watercolour set with me--only two versions of five colours--and I forgot the black. My two greens are not terribly compatible. Anyway--moved on to the Viking ship. It's so detailed, I could fiddle with it forever, but I think this is my final version.
See you very soon--like fifteen minutes!
XO S
Hello Sarah -
well, it feels very strange to be writing this given that you are sitting at the end of the same table upon which my laptop sits…
Despite the intrusions of work, we did manage to get in a couple of lovely strolls and even discussed the gaps in the novel and shared a lovely dinner out on the deck…
At some point today I was leaving an upstairs unit and looked down into the courtyard below where you were sitting, waiting so patiently.
A short time later, I was catching up on paperwork in the new restaurant (Axis) at Solara, and you pulled out your sketchbook and drew this blind contour drawing of me… working.
Art imitates work imitates life… Or, something.
Nikki
