Hi Nikki,
I signed up for a free urban sketching course on Urban Sketch. The teacher is a Brit named Ian Fennelly and while the course is short, it's quite good. The final module is a "draw along" lesson using a photo and sketch of Porto in Portugal. After going through the basics of line, tone, composition etc. he walks you through his process of drawing a scene. I got as far as the underdrawing (in faint ink) before I had to leave to go and meet Dani, and I didn't get home in time to do the next stage, which is using heavier ink lines. Also, in order to finish, I'll need to go and get some watercolour paints. Anyway, the drawing is very ghostly, but it is a drawing.
See you tomorrow afternoon, by which time I hope to have done more on both this drawing and on the book.
XO S
Hi Sarah!
Well, I can’t wait to see where your overpainting goes from here!
And, how weird that this evening when I got in from seeing a delightfully funny/silly farce Drinking Habits I randomly sketched something that could also be considered an underdrawing of sorts.
I had not yet seen your (very cool) Porto sketch when I did mine - but I was thinking of hill towns and ancient structures while I drew.
If you are going to be adding watercolour to yours, I might do the same with mine - except my paper is flimsy, so it may well disintegrate before I get too far.
Until tomorrow -
Nikki
