Ghost shells and the start of something weird
Dear Nikki/Dear Sarah--Day 2/05 of our drawing exchange.
Hi Nikki,
My day so far: Work, walk, weights, shower, laundry, work, draw.
Today’s prompt was to do a loose charcoal drawing of an object, blur it, draw on top of it from another angle, blur that and do a final drawing from a third angle on top. The idea is to loosen up, not be fussy, and see what happens. It’s hard to see drawing number 2 —a very foreshortened shell, but I like the effect.

Hi Sarah -
oooh - I really like the effect! Lovely and loose, soft and yet - shell!
I need to preface this next contribution of mine with
I didn’t realize quite how obscene a nose can appear…
I’ve just come from my first magic realism class (it’s going to be a mind-bending course, I think), and I’ll be adding to this as I make my way through the next week or so of reading. This is why the nose (Gogol) and the insect (Kafka) are top left and there’s lots of room for more madness to come.
Next week’s book - Macunaima (I am a few chapters in now) makes those two look tame and logical, so I thought it would be fun to pick a few images from therein (there’s a LOT going on) and then attempt to create a drawing montage as a way to capture the madness. Also, time is short, so I’m always considering my multi-tasking/repurposing options as we need to produce a couple of essays/submissions.
OK - off now to find some food -
Nikki
