After yesterday’s fabulous wedding, we topped off our visit to Grand Bahama with a very full day that began with a swim with dolphins who split their time between the UNEXO center’s lagoon and the ocean. After that, brunch at the Stoned Crab and then on to some urban exploring at a massive abandoned resort that suffered damage in multiple hurricanes. For any location scouts out there, the resort would be the perfect set for a zombie apocalypse film.
From the creepy out-of-tune piano to the turtle-infested pool to the elevator shafts, shattered glass and not-so-secure-looking chandeliers, the place was both magnificent and sketchy as hell.
The best part of the visit was probably this sign that reads, “PLEASE PARDON OUR APPEARANCE. We are upgrading to better serve you.”
After all that, we were ready for a little frozen yogurt and ice cream, a few minutes of drawing, a swim, and a rousing game of bean bag/corn hole toss before reluctantly starting to pack.
Tomorrow we begin our journeys back to the various corners of the planet whence we came. I don’t like to use words like ‘never’ or ‘always’ but it’s safe to say that I will never experience another trip quite like this one.
A HUGE thank you and buckets of love to everyone involved who helped make this happen.
**EDIT: My daughter pointed out that I missed a whole day of fun times between the wedding and the zombie apocalypse… Yes, there were caves and beaches and a dinghy ride along the canals… it’s all a bit overwhelming, apparently. My poor brain can’t keep up with all the processing required…**
