Construction project and a flock of birds

Dear Sarah/Dear Nikki - Day 548 of our daily art adventure

Hi Sarah -

After a great week with our visitors (why is it we sometimes leave the finest experiences in our backyards until someone from out of town comes to visit?) I’m taking a moment this evening just to sit and listen to the wind while I snip and glue. Trying not to think about the fires, the communities destroyed, lives turned upside down with no warning.

The rustle of leaves outside my open window is, by turns, calming and terrifying.

Lots of studying ahead - received the final nod today from the licensing powers that be in BC - ready to roll up my sleeves and start working on the island as well as here. Though it will take my busy-ness up yet another notch, it will be lovely to spend more time back on the coast.

Dear Nikki,

Ooh, drawalks. That would be lovely. I haven’t done that in a while. So excited that you’ll be here more often.

I’m sure you have days that feel as if you are stamping out one small fire after another. Most of my day was like that, but then I picked the kids up and we made some art. I showed them how to draw simple birds on a wire, and we went from there. Kianna drew a whole flock of birds on branches, Kai drew and cut out a single brightly-coloured bird, and I kept it very simple. Paper, Crayola markers, laughter, pizza. Not a tugboat in sight.
