Dear Sarah -
April 10, 2025
That was a good working session today - very happy to finally be going deep into Cassandra’s interior workings…
This evening, after a quick chat with Dani, got to work on one of the three pieces I need to finish for the school project, part of which will look familiar from the other day. This is mixed media collage using photograph, watercolour, torn paper, and printouts of the piece I did on the iPad based on the Australian photograph. I quite like it! It certainly fits with the theme of our project, so I think I’ll leave this one and move onto the next.
I don’t think I’ll have much time to work on the novel between now and Sunday evening, but I think there may be a couple of hours then when I can write another journal entry or two for Cass.
Just saw your caterpillar arrive in my email - what a brilliant idea, to sculpt it from shrubbery!
Until tomorrow -
Nikki

Hi Nikki -
It was good to see you today, and to put a plan in place for what we need to do next on the novel. Even though there's still much work to be done and many more words to be written, I can (sort of) see the end in sight. Right now, Anton is ripping into his mother's drinking habits (after she dared to criticise Cass)--and Rose isn't happy. About anything.
After we talked I went to see an elderly friend who is preparing to have houseguests for five days. She admitted to being exhausted by all the preparations, so I offered to oil an old cabinet for her (for some reason she felt that needed to be done before her guests arrive) and did not get home in time to sit down and concentrate on drawing. And BTW, I do not require you to clean every inch of your house before my visit in July!
So today you are getting the promised "caterpillar hedge." The perspective isn't right, but I hope some of the charm is intact! I love it that someone looked at a pretty bog-standard hedge and thought, "I can make that look like a caterpillar!"
XO Sarah
