Climbing the wall
Dear Nikki/Dear Sarah--Day 437 of our daily drawing exchange
Hi Nikki,
After spending the morning in tax-prep land (not a place I like to be) I went to the Boulderhouse in Langford with the family and watched all three of my grandkids climb the kids’ walls. Managed to capture the two youngest; I had to draw quickly because they didn’t stay still for long. No tutorial—just a mechanical pencil and a tiny notebook. Felt good.

Hi Sarah -
oh, this looks like my kind of fun outing! Though, I don’t boulder anymore after I exploded my elbow in a nasty fall. Roped climbing all the way to the top!
The climbing gym is a great place to do quick sketches!
These two pieces are going into our class presentation tomorrow night - both are inspired by Clarice Lispector’s novel, The Hour of the Star. Lispector deliberately used unconventional punctuation and syntax (not always for obvious - to me, at least - reasons). The first image is of the narrator of the novel (a meta work in which he constantly reminds us that he has full/no control over the story) and the object of his affection/obsession (the girl in the mirror). These are both mixed media with a digital element.
After our class presentation, it’s on to my final paper which, unless I have a sudden change of heart, will be about collage as a way to visually explore works of literary magic realism.
Tomorrow night will be our penultimate lecture. After the lectures are done, I will somehow have managed to complete all my requisite coursework and will be on to my capstone project/thesis.
I can’t believe I’ve got this far and not imploded!
There is always room on the plate for another pea, as they say. Don’t they?
Until tomorrow -
Nikki
