Carrots galore and a stray climbing shoe
Dear Sarah--Day 322 of our daily drawing exchange
Hi Nikki,
Continuing with the vegetable theme: carrots. From blind contour to full colour. And later, into my salad.
I’ve been meaning to ask: are all the Kalymnian church drawings done on your iPad? They’ve all been lovely, but the last one especially so.
Tomorrow I’m going to try something that Danny G suggests: when watching something on TV, press Pause and then draw what you see on the screen. Sounds challenging, but in a good way.
Hi Sarah -
what a fabulous series!! And, and intriguing challenge to press pause and draw… The closest I’ve done to that is to do some super quick sketches of heads seen in zoom rooms… Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
Today, panel three of the four… moving slowly, but a LOT going on here at the moment. Dani arrived and after picking up supplies for the company Christmas party, we headed back to Canmore where we spent the evening assembling a super cute village that Dani created and which is destined to sprout up beneath one of the 100 trees on display at the Malcolm Hotel. More on this (and a photo) tomorrow.
Anyway, chose an item here in my office that was also reminiscent of Kalymnos and climbing:
The recent drawings are all on the iPad, but I’m trying to be looser and not rely so heavily on photos for reference. The shoe was drawn from life - plunked it on my desk and drew. Had I used a photo, it would all have fit in the panel :)
For the recent sketches I’ve also been relying more on simple tools (Procreate pencil today, for example) rather than getting all fancy with the many, many cool brushes and stamps that are also options in the program. It’s easy to get away from just concentrating on trying to draw. Your discipline in this regard is inspiring.
K - off I go to bed - did not sleep well at the hotel last night.
Cheers,
Nikki
