Buccaneer Days with Grandma -- and That's Supposed to Be Pasta
Dear Sarah - Day 130 of our daily drawing exchange
May 10, 2025
Hi Nikki,
It was a simple plan... Pick K&K up at 9, get their mom an Earl Grey donut (her fave) from Empire Donuts (for tomorrow), make some Mother's Day cards for her, watch a bit of the Buccaneer Days parade, check out the other activities, come home, have lunch, take kids home. We got the donut (and one for the road), missed the parade, made a complex donut-themed card (Kianna) and a few very wet paintings (Kai), waited in lineups for tickets, went on the dragon ride, and played one game with the remaining tickets. Won one prize. Negotiated a sharing protocol. I refused to buy endless midway tickets or $9 candy apples. Instead, they went to the bouncy castle, then we ate mini-donuts, hit a playground with a zipline, walked home, had lunch and I took them home at 2:30. Nana was tired. They were not. Nana had a lie-down. I'm sure they did not. I hope their takeaway was "We had a fun day with Nana," not "Nana is a cheapskate who doesn't like noise and rides!"

I forgot to take a picture of Kianna's donut card, but I am attaching mine and Kai's.
XO S
Hi Sarah!
Wow - that all sounds utterly exhausting! No wonder you needed a nap :)
I am wrapping up as much work as possible before our departure next week (a week in Skaha, climbing!), so I put more miles on the new car… Today, Cochrane — to show condos to a lovely couple from Ontario (via Facetime - tech is cool when it works).
Got home and spied the tall canister of pasta on the counter and thought - “How hard could a couple of those be?” (to draw). Well…
It’s ok if you laugh. I am laughing. Good lord. True brain twisters, those twiddly pastas.
Tomorrow, not quite sure what I’m up to - possibly another run into the city, but if not, then prepping the house for the friends who are staying here while we are away. And, I suppose, thinking about packing. And trying to keep up with school reading. And stuff…
Great card btw - Heather will love it, I’m sure!
Talk to you tomorrow!
Nikki
