A funky flower and a blind contour Möbius strip
Dear Sarah-Day 240 of our daily drawing exchange
August 28, 2025
Dear Nikki,
Busy day. Talked to you, worked on the book, almost got sucked into a Bell scam (infuriating—they had ALL my Bell info), did damage control with Bell (also infuriating), went to one appointment, got a nosebleed, grabbed some tea at a cafe and burnt my tongue, went to a second appointment, fiddled around in the book some more when I got home, and lurked on a Zoom call about banned books. Speaker from PEN Canada and a group of children’s book authors and illustrators. Interesting (and scary) stuff in light of what’s going on in Alberta right now around this issue.
My energy for drawing was by then very low, so I followed a tutorial on how to draw an hibiscus. Not super accurate, but maybe that’s a good thing, since my goal is not photo-realism. I also drew a small beach scene (not included here), using some of my perspective “skills.” Will try it again tomorrow—see if I can figure out how to draw a convincing cloud.
Over to you!
XO S
Hi Sarah -
Oh how I despise a) scams and b) phone companies. I can only imagine how frustrating!!
More frustrating than my dear friend the Möbius strip? I thought perhaps I wasn’t looking at it properly and so decided to try a blind contour version…
The first effort (top left) is vaguely reminiscent of a fortune cookie. The second one — an embryo? Doesn’t look anything like the strip of twisted paper. Your hibiscus, on the other hand, looks hibiscian.
Sigh. Good thing the dawn will come once again tomorrow and I will live to draw again.
