An Aslanesque Lion and a Mystery Creature on the Beach
Dear Sarah - Day 137 of our daily drawing exchange
May 17, 2025
Hi Nikki,
Spent a little time on Island View Beach today, wishing I had the drawing/painting chops to depict the scene before me. It made me wish I had brought my sketchbook with me, just to give it a go. I must get a small sketchbook to carry with me for such moments.

I have now completed the sewing of Shiba Pup #1 -- all except the stuffing, which will be done by small hands tomorrow. I took a drawing break before I started on Shiba Pup #2, and drew a cement lion I saw in someone's front yard nearby. It's very Aslan-esque. I haven't got the proportions quite right yet, but will continue with it tomorrow. I'm attaching a photo of Aslan and my drawing. I love that he is lying in bluebells!
And now back to sewing, which is nowhere near as much fun as drawing!
Hope you got in a good climb today.
XO S
Hello!
We had a fun day today - not climbing, as it turned out (weather, Fabio nursing a sore foot). Instead, we took a bike ride toward Naramata (through vineyards, above the lake - lovely) and then back to the lakeshore (Penticton) for a picnic. On the beach we saw a whole bunch of plump, fearless yellow-bellied marmots (I think that’s what they are called). They look like overgrown gophers, sunning themselves on rocks by the lake. I took several photos and attempted a drawing …
A truly terrible effort, but because I foolishly decided to add paint and pen, there was no going back… the more I tried to fix the face (and the rest of it, really), the worse things got.
There’s the photo of the model… With apologies to marmots everywhere, I am putting aside my sketchbook for tonight.
Sigh.
Not sure what the weather will bring tomorrow - things are very unsettled and rock walls are not much fun to climb when slick and wet.
Cheers,
Nikki
