Accentuate the negative (space)
Dear Nikki/Dear Sarah Y2/D16 of our daily drawing exchange
Hi Nikki,
I managed to get out for a walk in the sunshine for an hour or so, but most of today was work. The drawing prompt today was to set up a still life on a black background using fairly flat objects. I chose scissors, an Exacto knife and a small spatula. The challenge was to use black (in my case more gray) paint to fill in the negative space and thus allow the objects to appear. Not terribly exciting, but a useful exercise, I guess. It matches my mood, which is a bit negative, to be honest.
I’m really looking forward to starting the sketchbook course next week with Jane Heinrichs . I’m hoping it will get me out of my drawing doldrums, which are connected to my winter doldrums, I’m sure.
Hi Sarah -
well, if you are looking to me to provide a cheery image, sorry…
The protagonist of The Stronghold had his first glimpse beyond the walls in the chapter I was able to squeeze in today. Hoping to see the desert nobody has crossed, he was disappointed he wasn’t able to make out much of anything. The vague descriptions provided by others re. what might be out there were unhelpful - to him and to me.
A very busy day today and a trip to the city tomorrow, so not sure when I’ll be back at home with a little more control over my time… Disappointed we were unable to meet for our scheduled writing session. It might be next week before we can reschedule. Annoying, to say the least.
Remind me to tell you about two unexpected gifts I received this week…. too tired now, but I don’t want to forget.
Nikki
