A tiny landscape and putting down roots in a root
Dear Nikki/Dear Sarah--Day 429 of our daily drawing exchange
Hi Nikki,
Do you ever get to the end of the day and wonder what you’ve been doing all day? It’s almost dinnertime, and I know I had a virtual doctor’s appointment, a long call with a publisher, a few hours of work, many emails, and an unexpected request to take a friend to an emergency doctor’s appointment in Oak Bay. Doesn’t seem like much, but here we are. Too tired/itchy/discouraged to paint or draw, so here’s a painting from a few days ago. Hoping tomorrow is an art-making day.
XO S
Hi Sarah -
my day was on the chaotic side with a lot going on and nothing happening quite as anticipated. Part of my time was spent back in the dentist’s chair for what was supposed to be the quick and easy phase of the crown installation.
“No freezing should be required.”
Well… the temporary crown they glued in last week did not want to come out.
Various attempts to pull it out/off (efforts which led to the discovery that the root of the tooth was very close to one of my sinus cavities) were weirdly painful (felt a bit like they were tugging at the root of my brain via my tooth). Freezing was, indeed, required. Even that, though, was not enough to prevent the bizarre telegraphing of trouble up into the space behind my face each time tugging pressure was applied.
They had to chop up the temporary crown and pluck it from my tooth piece by piece. Which, at least, did not hurt but did involve more tiny power tools than I had anticipated.
All that meant I had bonus time in the chair to enjoy staring at the cutest-ever tiny plant pot on the windowsill. Not huge, it was large enough to accommodate a succulent of some sort (backlit, so I couldn’t really study the plant properly). I liked the idea of the plant roots penetrating the tooth roots, and the tooth roots looking sturdy on the sill. All that was running through my head while I was marvelling at how determined my own tooth roots were to stay burrowed into my upper jawbone while the dentist was hauling away on the temporary crown that remained stubbornly fixed in place.
Until tomorrow -
Nikki
