A dog's ear, lines, leaves and no time for perspective
Dear Sarah - Day 157 of our daily drawing exchange
Dear Sarah -
June 6, 2025
Wow. How did this happen that we are already a week into June?
Early summer is a glorious time to be here in the mountains and, so far this year, we have not been blanketed by toxic smoke. I’m enjoying the blue skies, fluffy white clouds, and warm temps while they last.
As for drawing - today was one of those days when I took a loathed tool (the soft pencil) and started making marks without a plan. The first mark looked a bit like a dog’s ear… kept the pencil moving and this was the result. Weird. How does that happen that you start with a blank page and no idea what to do with it and then just follow the pencil marks until… something happens.
Until tomorrow -

Hi Nikki,
I've attached the latest exercise: draw flowing lines and where they intersect draw leaves.
Not the most interesting result, but will be useful at some point. Then I tried to do a quick sketch of the view across the street--I had wanted to draw the hill with all the satellite dishes, but the sun was in my eyes, so I drew the top of an ugly building, with a crane, some hills and some trees in the background.
No time for perspective! The crane is not really sitting on top of the building! Haha!
Off to Littleneck soon.
