A cranky post and a scribbly haunted house
Dear Sarah--Day 347 of our daily drawing exchange
Hi Nikki,
First of all—love the sparkly Timmy Ho’s Christmas tree! Very festive. Looking forward to some drawings of the haunted AirBnB! Hope you’re having fun with the fam.
Despite the best of intentions, not much arting was done today. Kids came over in the morning, and I made French toast for breakfast and then took them for a walk, because sunshine. After lunch, Kianna made four snow people out of tongue depressors, gauze makeup remover pads, and scraps of fabric, while Kai and I played Sorry! He won, as he almost always does. Much dishwashing was done, and much finding of blankets and pillows for the construction of forts and beds. Kianna made an entire paper meal and fed it to Kai, who obligingly pretended to eat it. After they left I found all the torn paper food, some with tooth marks, in a tidy pile under my coffee table. Then I fell asleep on the couch.
I rallied enough to make dinner and then attempted to follow an online tutorial that I thought looked fun. It wasn’t. Once again, I didn’t have the right tools—in this case decent colour pencils (for the water drops) and good angled acrylic markers (for the bamboo). Both drawings required a white pencil for highlights, something I can’t even approximate. Crankiness ensued.
Tomorrow will be a work day, and I will spend most of Wednesday making cinnamon buns, wrapping gifts and trying to get in the Christmas mood. Maybe I’ll do one of those Danny G “instructional” drawings—how to make cinnamon buns!
XO S
Hello Sarah!
From a distance, the water droplets look watery and the bamboo looks bamboo-ey… Impressive that after all that fort-building, Sorry! playing, etc. you had the strength to do anything arty…
Today I had perhaps 30 seconds to draw - it has been a day full of driving and visiting and eating and chatting and more driving and visiting and eating and then more driving… you get the idea. This does sort of capture the essence of the place where we are staying. It will make a great subject with which to linger… but not tonight.
Tomorrow, first thing in the morning, Dani and I are heading for the German Consulate to apply for our passports. Fingers crossed that we have all the requisite documents… After that, there are several outings planned, including an excursion to some place where they film Hallmark Christmas movies? Martini Town? I may be totally wrong on the name…
It’s great to have everyone gathering in one place this Christmas - albeit somewhat chaotic.
Stay tuned…
